Blessed Beyond Measure II – I’m saved!

Yeah, I’m at it again! I’m so excited by Ephesians. It has always been one of my favorite books of the bible so to share my passion with you guys just makes me want to jump in my bed lol.

Ephesians 2: 1-10

1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Again, I’ll use bullet points:

  • This was us before Christ
    • DEAD in our sins
    • Following the world
    • Following the prince of the power of the air (the devil)
    • Sons of disobedience
    • Living following the passions of our flesh
      • doing whatever our minds imagined to do
      • children of wrath
  • We were dead before Christ. Children of wrath. Sin was our father, wrath was our mother. We were sinners deserving of nothing else but death. There was no good in us. We did whatever our minds and thoughts told us to do. We were basically prisoners in a jail awaiting our own lethal injection death sentence. Contrary to popular belief, there is no freedom in sin. There is no joy in sin. How can there be joy in anything that will only end in death? The wages of sin is death. We deserved to die for disobeying God. I mean come on, the bible called us children of wrath!
  • BUT GOD!
  • Verse 4 goes on to talk about the amazing overflowing mercy of Christ; he loved us even in our prison of sin. He loved us even though we were dead in our passions, ill and undeserving of him. He still loved us and HE MADE US alive in him. He raised us up. He seated us in heavenly places giving us access to every spiritual blessing (as we learnt yesterday). Why? (v7) so he could show us how great his kindness is towards us for years to come? The bible basically says he saved you so he could bless you
  • So wait, let’s get this straight. You are a convicted criminal awaiting the death sentence. A millionaire comes to your prison to visit you and says, “I will take your place, just so I can show you how kind I am. Not only that but while I die for you, you can live in my mansion and have access to all my wealth and assets.” But that’s what Jesus did for us!
  • I LOOOOOOVE reading about the gospel! It never fails to humble and excite me!!!! If this isn’t exciting you, then I’d ask you to pray that God return to you the joy of your salvation
  • How can you say you are not blessed? How can you say you don’t have a purpose? How can you say your life is worthless? How can you say you are a mistake?
    • If you think any of these things, it’s like saying God died for the wrong person and you are rejecting the gift of salvation. God obviously thinks you’re worth it because he died for you!
  • Verse 10 goes on to say we are created for his good work, so we can walk in it. That is just it. If you aren’t walking in the fullness of your spiritual blessings and doing the good works of the Father, then what are you doing?

The greatest blessing and testimony you have in life is salvation. Don’t make like about the goals you are trying to or have already achieved. The thing you should be most proud of is the fact that you have been redeemed from the enemy’s camp, you are now seated at the right hand of the Father in heavenly places, and that you are walking in the fulness of every spiritual blessing Christ has given you. A lot of us spend our whole christian lives trying to gain the approval of Christ and other Christians. This is wrong. While we were dead in our sins, we already gained his approval and love. That’s why he died for us and bestowed on us every spiritual blessing so we can be free to walk in the good works he prepared for us and not be bound to try and win the approval of man.

You are saved. Bought with a price. Free from sin. Free from bondage. Free from pain. Free from hurt.

Christ did that for you. The creator of heaven and earth has saved you.

Not only were you created for good works, you have been blessed with every spiritual blessing to do good works.

You are blessed beyond measure…start believing it.

We are Blessed Beyond Measure

I haven’t blogged in a good, long, while, but God has been stirring me to do it again so here it goes.

Ephesians 1: 3-14 – Spiritual Blessings in Christ

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

This verse has blessed me so much this morning and there is a lot I am praying as a result of it. I’ll just break it down in bullet point as I’m mindful of the time and have only 30mins to do this before the work grind begins lol.

  • v 3: we have already been blessed beyond measure, blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. I take this to mean that our spirit man is overflowing in the abundance of gifts the Lord has for us. Why I said our “spirit man” is because Paul (the writer of this book) said we are blessed in heavenly places…hence we must in effect draw from our spirit that is seated in heavenly places with Christ (if we are saved), walk in the spirit, and utilise the gifts we have in the spirit. Spiritual blessings are not only prophecy, teaching, faith etc…I take every spiritual blessing to mean wisdom, health, strength, peace, love, holiness, righteousness…
  • In actual fact, this excerpt of scripture makes a lot of sense if you read it with the parenthesis (brackets) I use below for emphasis:
    • 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. (In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9) making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

***I am not saying this portion of scripture is not relevant*** but this morning I’m focusing on why we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing. Jumping down to verse 9, we get our answer: we have been blessed (the word lavished is used in verse 8) according to (because of) his purpose to make known to us the mystery of his will [which is to] unite all things in heaven and things on earth. Every blessing we have is to unite us with Christ; to place us in total harmony with the will of the Father.

    • The bible also says in Hebrews that we are to walk in the completed work of the cross (largely paraphrased and summarised lol). When Jesus said it is finished, he didn’t mean “I’m going to die now”. He meant what I came to do here on earth is finished. My purpose is accomplished.
    • What was his purpose? to make known to us the mystery of His will and unite us with the Father; to unite things on earth with things in heaven. Where are our spiritual blessings located? In heavenly places?
      • Through Jesus, we now have access to the great store rooms in heaven that contain EVERYTHING that pertains to life and godliness. We are now united to heaven by the precious blood of Christ, and we can walk in the fullness of heaven here on earth by utilising and laying claim on every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
    • Notice also that these blessings are to unite us with Christ. Anything that you have received that starts to take you away from unity with Christ is either demonic by nature, or you are abusing it and using it incorrectly.

We are BLESSED guys…I hope this makes sense :/ I’ve typed it in 20minutes, but it thoroughly blessed me this morning. My prayer as a result of reading this was “Lord unite my heart with yours, align me to your perfect will. May I continue to walk in the fullness of every spiritual blessing that you have lavished on my life so that I may be a vessel in uniting others to you!”

Have a great day 🙂

Mission Trip Diary – June 21

June 21st

Wow, God is so amazing!

So today we went out in our mission groups at camp, our group did community service in the morning, and vacation bible school in evening, but we got lost 3 times which meant we circled the church building we were staying at 4 times lol (bear in mind we had been at the location we were trying to find all week)…after being frustrated, we eventually found our way and started heading to the location, but we saw an inflated water slide and decided to stop incase there were kids there we could minister to. When we pulled up, a truck pulled in behind us and the team leaders spoke to them to ask what they were doing. It turned out that they had just finished a Christian camp there for youth and they were actually coming to dismantle and clean up the camp, so we offered to help. We tore down the stage and all the decorations in about an hour and cleaned the bathrooms and dorms at the camp, and the guy running the camp was literally in tears because he said it would have taken him a whole day to clean up the venue. As we started talking to the guy more, he began to share with us the adversities he had faced the week of his being his wife breaking her arm that week, and his car breaking down, and so much more. He had woken up in the morning wondering how he was going to get the camp cleaned up and how long it would take him, but God sent our group his way to help. It was so amazing to think that the location we had been going to for 3 days, we’d get lost going to on the 4th day, but to realise that it was God’s plan all along because if we had got to their camp location early, we wouldn’t have met anyone there and been able to help, was amazing.

The bible says God knows what we need before we pray and He always sends us help, and this testimony is a testament to that. If we work for the Lord faithfully, He will send us help when we need it. To thing the guy got to go home and care for his wife and even just rest after a hard week of camp was amazing.

Sometimes we get so frustrated when we’re stuck in traffic or miss our way. Next time, stop and think if it because God is saving you from something or stalling you so that you can be a blessing to someones life. We must trust in God’s sovereignty both in word and in deeds.

Mission Trip Diary – June 19

June 19

This was an amazing day. Tonight we had something called a prayer concert which I am DEFINITELY going to bring back to the UK with me…The Levites312 prayer concert coming soon…but it was amazing to see kids on their faces in worship to the King. Kids were crying as God was working on their hearts and that was awesome. It’s my prayer now that the work Christ has started in camp will be fully completed and continue when they leave because it’s so easy to be “Christian” in a Christian environment where there are limited distractions, but the real test of a person’s faith is when they are in their natural environment and they are still able to embrace their faith.

We also got to visit this AWESOME kids orphanage that was just mind blowing beyond belief. I don’t even know how many acres of land it sits on, but it has a gym, a pond, a huge tree house, 4 cabins, a mini golf place, and a lake that is around 2 acres. It was started by a judge who started taking kids in, and now around 300 kids have passed through his house. What made it so awesome for me was that I have always had dreams of opening an orphanage like that, so seeing it live makes me know that it can be done and it isn’t just a random dream, which is encouraging and motivating.

This whole experience has been so amazing for me, to learn from people who are actually doing what I want to do with my life and experience the call that God has placed on my life has been amazing. I only have a few days left, but it has definitely been an experience of a life time and I am already planning my trip for next year 🙂

Mission Trip Diary – June 18th

June 18

I haven’t blogged in a few days because we’ve been so busy and tired, but God has been truly amazing. We’ve started a new week of camp, but this one is totally different from the other one we did, including the fact that it is a totally different location. We’re more hands on this week, so everyday we’re in the community painting schools, painting the homes of people in the neighbourhood who are needy. There are also teams doing gardening in the community and it’s just so amazing to see 200 young people serving God in a city like this.

I just remembered a testimony I hadn’t shared yet though. Last week in Alabama, we visited a charity called mission of hope and I was asked to do the closing prayer, which I didn’t want to do. After I finished praying, the manager of the charity came up to me with tears in her eyes, and embracing me saying the prayer was exactly what she needed for strength to continue on serving as the charity director. It really touched me because sometimes we withhold our services and gifts because at that moment, WE don’t feel like serving, but in doing that we deny other people of their blessings. Really, it comes down to an issue of the heart being selfish in that moment, and it’s something we all do and need to pray about. We should always be ready to serve no matter what it costs us. Yes, there are times where we need to pray and ask God if we are taking on a long term position of serving to make sure it is in His will, but we should never shy away from our basic responsibility to serve the body of Christ around us because of any selfish reason.

Mission Trip Diary – June 10th – 14th

June 10

Today we started camp, and I must say, I’m quite excited!

I’ve never been to camp before, even as child and this time I’m starting off as a camp counsellor and it’s amazing to have a group of about 10 kids under me this week. I’ll be leading them in two bible studies a day and team activities to teach them about missions and preparing them to help serve in their communities as God requires of us.

We are in the woods, I mean deep woods! There are deer here, snakes and all sorts. No internet connection, no cell phone connection so we are really roughing it lol….luckily we have a cabin we’re staying in 🙂

I’m so excited to be able to have an impact on these peoples lives though! The longer I’m out here, the longer I’m realising this is what I want to do with my life. I just love serving people and seeing them grow in Christ!

June 11

Today was amazing. We did our first two group bible studies today and team building activities and they went great! It’s amazing to see these kids unfold at the sound of the gospel too. I had two kids in my group who didn’t say a word, literally, but now they’re talking and interacting with other kids which is great to see. I love that we as camp counsellors get to directly sow into these kids lives while teaching them how to sow into others lives because we truly are leading my example.

I’ve also learnt so much about the hosts I’m staying with. They give so much! And it’s awesome to serve them serving others. God is truly teaching me about a life of selflessness where He is our only reason and motive behind everything my head or heart even can dream. God is truly using this week to work on the selfish heart of my sinful nature so I can serve Him more. I haven’t rested in 2 weeks and I’m praying God will keep us going for Him!

June 12

I’m so overwhelmed by what God has been doing in my life this week. To see HIm truly cultivating a heart to serve continually is great, and I know it is a lesson I will carry with me for the rest of my life. God’s sovereignty in the children’s lives that I’m working with is amazing. Today I gave them a random quiz about the bible studies we’ve been having all week just to see if they have been listening, and it was amazing to hear their responses and know they had been listening was amazing. To see them grow and develop, and to have young people getting saved is just mind blowing. Please pray for the young people we have been working with this week at the camp, that God will continue to draw them to His side.

I also went fishing today for the first time AND I caught a fish! wooooooooooo lool

June 13

Today was amazing!!!! We got to go out to a food pantry and clothes closest and serve by putting in practise everything we’ve learnt. I was so excited to see the young people I’ve been working with so willing and excited to serve and share the gospel. We didn’t have to beg or drag them, they came up to us asking if we can go door to door and so eager to talk about Christ. To see the work that God is doing in their hearts is just so humbling and exciting at the same time! We also went to a local apartment complex and played with all the neighbourhood kids and sang songs with them whilst sharing the gospel, I pray that the seeds we have sown will continue to germinate and bear fruit.

June 14

Today will be the first semi day of rest we will have since the first, but even today it will be full of errands preparing for the next mission trip to Panama City, Florida. Today was emotional though, it was the last day of camp and to say goodbye to all the kids I have worked with all week was hard. I’ve grown to really love them and I was so blessed to be able to serve and teach them this week. I know God has started an amazing work in their lives and I will forever pray for them because I know God will continue to work on their hearts. It was humbling to get into some amazing conversations with people and share testimonies and encouragement, but also to see God changing the hearts of the young people I was leading. I will definitely keep in touch with them and will keep great memories in my heart. Ya’ll pray for us though, we tired!!! Lol, but we’re still going 🙂

Mission Trip Diary – June 8th

Costa Rica has just been an amazing experience, like words cannot describe everything in my heart or the memories I’ll carry from this place throughout the rest of my life. I really encourage any and everyone who has an opportunity to do a mission trip to do one, whether in your own country or abroad.

Today we went Zip lining in the Costa Rican rain forest which was a breath taking experience. We climbed to the top of the mountains in the pictures, like literally climbed through streams and mountains and rocks up the side of the mountain to almost the peak, and zip lined down. The view was immense, to see God’s creation like that was awesome. We also found our that Costa Rica used to be underwater, but after the flood in the bible, it was pushed up from the water and the mountains have fossils all over them! There have even been shark and dinosaur teeth found in the Costa Rican Mountains.

I’ve loved sharing the gospel out here, it’s been truly amazing to build up confidence in that area to point where I believe I am fully confident in that area. It is something we all need to do as Christians. We must be confident in sharing our faith!

This trip has definitely impacted my life for better. I can see that i’ve starting to walk in my calling and truly accept what God has called me to be. Even though I’ve known it for so long, now I’ve actually embraced it and I’m walking in the fullness of the call, not in my own knowledge or intellect but in the grace and power of the Holy Spirit which feels so amazing! My confidence in Christ has just blossomed and I’m so grateful to God, words cannot describe!

I’ve made some amazing friends so far, and I can’t wait to see what the other weeks have in store. Bring on Alabama and Florida! (not holidays, more mission work lol)
